Branch History
The first library
began as a Mechanic’s Institute. An original record book
covering 1877-1892 is held by the Regional History Collection at
UWO. The exact location of that library is unknown. When the
County Library took over in 1963, the library was in the Ailsa
Craig municipal building, in a small 18' x 22' room. In March
of 1985, the library was moved to part of the vacated fire hall
in the municipal building. In 1992 the library was expanded to
take over all of the fire hall in the municipal building.
A multi-purpose
centre was built on Main Street in 2000 (opened in 2001) to
house the library, a community policing office and a satellite
office for the new Municipality of North Middlesex.
