 Interlibrary Loan (ILLO)

Middlesex County Library is part of the information resource sharing network for Ontario public libraries, allowing patrons access to the collections of over 175 public libraries in Ontario, public and academic libraries across the country, the Ontario Archives, and Library and Archives Canada.

The network is a partnership between the participating public libraries, Ontario Library Service-North and Southern Ontario Library Service with support from the Ministry of Culture.

When a patron has searched the collection of Middlesex County Library, and does not find what they are looking for, they can request books and photocopies on Interlibrary Loan.  Microfilm requests also can be filled, but must be viewed at the Strathroy Public Library.

We cannot accept requests for audiovisual material (DVDs, videos, audio books, CDs etc.) because we do not have a suitable method to deliver this type of material to the patron’s local branch.

 Requesting an Interlibrary Loan (ILLO)

If the Middlesex County Library catalogue does not have what you are looking for, you can request an Interlibrary Loan using the INFO Ontario network.

You may request in two ways.  You can visit any of our eighteen branch libraries and have the staff request on your behalf.  The other option is the self-service Patron-Initiated Interlibrary Loan request.

You must register for this service, providing your name, telephone number, and library card number in an email to our Interlibrary Loan office at interloan@county.middlesex.on.ca.

Follow the Interlibrary Loan link on our Middlesex County Library catalogue.  Select English or French.

  1. Select Sign In and enter your User ID and password as provided by the Interlibrary Loan office.

  2. Choose Middlesex County Library as your library location from the Authentication Service drop down menu.

  3. Click Submit.

  4. Select Standard or Advanced Search.

  5. Note the Current Profile drop down menu.  You will use these search profiles to do your searches.

  6. Select SOLS Thames South as your initial search profile, searching libraries in the surrounding area.

  7. Search using keywords from the title and/or author.  If no matches are found from the first profile, select another profile and repeat the search.

  8. Select Details to verify this is the item you want.  Please be sure to choose a record with an ISBN showing.  This is how the network sends the requests to other libraries.

  9. Select Get it! to place a request.  Item details are automatically entered in the interlibrary loan form.

  10. Complete the form by selecting your preferred Pickup Location from the drop down menu at the bottom of the form.

  11. Click Submit to send your request.

  12. Sign Out when you are finished.

A three week renewal can be made on the library's online catalogue.  Please notify library staff or the ILLO staff at interloan@county.middlesex.on.ca.  Request cancellations must be requested from library staff.

When the requested material shows received, please do not immediately go to your library to pick it up.  Wait for library staff to notify you when it is available.
